Whelks,winkles... All crustaceous seafood except prawns. Can't do crab.lobster or scallops.
Don't like the way they are killed and cooked. Save our Scallops. SOS !!!
Also HATE evaporated milk.
My morning readings when I started monitoring about 12 days ago was 7.9.
I have learned about what to eat for breakfast and have tweaked accordingly.

I still drink (switched rose for white and drink half wine, half fizzy water and have halved my alcohol consumption.
Last night however I finished a bottle of spirits and drank 3 doubles but the bottle is now finished and I won't be buying anymore.

My morning reading have been going steadily down all week. This morning like yesterday it was 7.

Does this mean I am getting 'better' ??

Would my 'proper' blood test ( forgot the name) be lower then?

Would a lower fasting reading equate with me losing weight?
(I haven't a set of scales yet... Next on shopping list)

Thanks.

Drink makes me forget too. Drink also interferes with the morning liver dump since it can't function at the same time as it is dealing with alcohol. That may be one answer.

There is another possible contributor. I am lowering my morning readings at the moment. I did this a month or so ago and am repeating the test to see if it always works. I have no carbohydrates whatsoever after about 4 in the afternoon.

Bits of chicken =ok, Mattesons smoked pork sausages =ok. Providing it is protein =ok

There seems to be a sort of flywheel effect and you have to keep at it for a while but here are my last four morning readings.

6.7
6.2
5.9
5.7

I still have Weetabix for breakfast and I just had a goodly portion of new potatoes with my lunch but after 4pm ...........

I know it begins with H... The blood test.

I saw my DN for the first time on Wednesday and to my surorise she gave me a script for my Glucomen monitor.

But she will only give me 50 per month and wants me to monitor once a day.

1st day,Before and after breakfast.
2nd day.Before and after lunch.
3rd day. Before and after dinner.
4th day. Before and after night. Before bed I suppose.

She said that gives her a much better idea of whats going on.
But I got a script which is the main thing.

I NEED to monitor first thing. I don't know why but it's the first thing I do as it is my most important meal of the day. And it is now part of my routine.

As I always have a late breakfast ( can't eat when I'm not hungry so usually about 10.30) And I don't eat lunch,I always make myself a dinner about 6 and maybe a piece of toast and marmite later in the evening.

I have switched tea for fizzy water and lemon and lime and I drink around 6 glasses a day.

Maybe I should try to eat breakfast and have a lunch. But then that would mean no dinner at 6.00. It would be far later and I hate going to bed on a full stomach....

Bit more tweaking me thinks then...

Interesting about the 'liver dump'. I haven't got my head around that one yet. In that case my liver 'dumps' fairly frequently then !!

Be very very careful with the alcohol

I actually started a topic remarking on how alcohol kept my blood sugar low for days afterwards, then one day just 2 cans of cider caused my levels to crash and wake up at over 19mmol the next morning feeling like I was dying.

I can't lecture you, but for god's sake woman be careful. I kind of like you <3

I seem to have found a technique which works for me and is useful. Starting the day off low gives me more headroom for the rest of the day.

Zola ......it's Hba1c and careful with the drink. I am not preaching, I am just saying that people have gone hypo because they take their insulin as usual and don't get the expected liver rush. One contributor told us about the difficulties she had in the back of an ambulance.

When I first started it took a few days to have much affect on the bg and for the first week was very variable. I think it takes some time to get the glucose out of the system and to get the body used to a new level.
Was very worried then very relieved when it did come down.
I was testing before and after every meal to find the affect. Nurse said one a day but the receptionist put through the prescription when I asked - have also bought strips from amazon just in case.

I'll try to attach a graph of my readings and you'll see what happened at the start.
Nope can't figure out how. Managed it.

It is still getting lower...

This morning it was 5.7.
After brekkie. 9.5.

Surely the drop is showing everything is improving?

At the moment I eat very little carbohydrate anyway, I never have done.
I eat 2 slices of proper bread, one in my breakfast and usually toast and marmite late at night.

I luckily don't have a sweet tooth. I don't eat sweets or chocolate or pies or pastry or biscuits. I talked to my Mum and she said whenever we used to go out and eat fish and chips in a restaurant ( Big treat was that ) I used to at the fish but leave the batter.

In the evenings I eat usually a piece of liver with broccoli and courgettes cooked in water with no butter. No potatoes or gravy. With onions and mushrooms and tomatoes cooked in a little olive oil.
Or a pork chop. I cook with very little oil and drain everything really well of oil afterwards.
But for the last couple of weeks I have been having an enormous salad consisting of lettuce, cucumber, grated carrot, cherry tomatoes.radish and celery...Oh yes,and half an avocado. And prawns and smoked salmon and crabsticks.( My DN said watch out for the prawns as they are low in fat but yet high in cholesterol ) And a small squirt of Hellmans. Can't stand the low fat mayonnaise.

I always eat this way anyway pretty much. The biggest surprise this week was the banana I ate which sent my levels up to 18.9

The massive weight gain I have experienced over the last 5 years is a combination of being diagnosed with Emphasyma which has severely effected my exercise as getting breathless freaks me out....Going through the menopause and yes...drinking too much rose wine. Up until I was 50 I was fit ( gardener) and I had a boyfriend. Which kept me fit in other ways. I weighed 10 stone and never had to think about my weight as I was so active.
Now I weigh 15 stone and my self confidence is extremely low. So this Type 2 diagnosis could be a blessing in disguise. I have substituted tea for water. (Can't stand sweeteners) So am saving around 1.500 calories a week.
And I no longer drink Brandy and Orange (dribble) And drink dry white wine in moderation.

I know I have lost a bit of weight. I haven't any scales yet but they are next on my shopping list.

And this site is essential. For me anyway...

Thanks to you all for your advice, wisdom and encouragement.
