Hi All,

My recent A1C test said my score was 43 in the pre-diabetic range. Yet the fasting plasma Glucose test showed a result of 5.7. According to Nice the Fasting Plasma Glucose test says a score of 6.1 and above is pre-diabetic yet mine is below that.

Which one is correct?

Both!

HbA1c is an average over 3 to 4 months - the time it takes for your red blood cells to be completely replaced in their life cycle.

Blood plasma glucose is similar to a finger prick test, as in it's a measure of blood glucose at the time it's taken. Just more accurate.

So your HbA1c is affected by previous months high blood glucose and your blood plasma reading indicates you're now in a very good place.

Well done!

Hi,

Thanks for the information. It's certainly good to know I'm ok at the moment.
