Well visited my doctor today again who is the doctor who deals with diabetics in our clinic. I still have zero confidence in the guy. Asked about Victoza again or Byetta, wants to continue with current treatment as he says my results are positive. we discussed a few other things let me know what you guys think of this.

Mentioned my constant headaches since starting these tablets and the wind. - Thankfully doesnt think its anything to worry about.

Asked if he is sure was my diabetes is Type 2 possibly beggining of type1 or lada etc. Response was im pretty sure its type2 thats my best guess... Asked if he had done the C-peptide test and he said he had never heard of it :lol:

Advised him that after 3 weeks of 40mg gliclizide half a tablet a day and 30mg Actos my bg readings are still around 9-10 before food and 12-14 after with some spikes higher should I up the dose. Only had a few large fasting reads of less than 8. Responce was those levels are fine nothing to worry about keep on the current treatment and we will see if they come down further. :?

Now my results are these looking not bad?

Cholestorol 4.4

He did say he found my case slightly strange as im so young and theres no history of diabetes directly only granparents etc. And that as im so young and he wasnt exactly sure on my type so hes sending a referel to some specialist at the hospital...yay getting somewhere. So how am I doing guys
 
I`ve only been diagnosed myself for two months so wouldnt feel able to comment on your results but am pleased that your Doctor is sending you to see someone who knows more about diabetes than he obviously does !
 
I find some of the Doctors fustrating because we know how we are reacting to certain drugs, but they think they know what's best :x Byetta and Victoza are expensive drugs and they won't advise you to have them until all other avenues have been done. I have been on Victoza since sunday and the results are great, maybe somewhere down the line you'll be offered either of them but until then they do other drugs first.

your post high-lights that many GPs are completely out of their depth managing diabetes clinics. It's something I'd always feared happening since my diagnosis in '89.
I was sent straight to hospital on the day my GP found sugar in my urine; at least he knew his limits!
I was 19 and presented with weight loss, thirst, and flu-like symptoms. My blood sugar was 17 when I was diagnosed and I was put on insulin straight away by the diabetes specialist at the hospital. Wot a day that was. I also had a diabetes liason sister visit me every other day at home for few weeks-those were the days!
I am astounded that your doc considers your high levels are nothing to worry about! I'm also not surprised your dubious about your diagnosis, hopefully a visit to the specialist will sort that out.
You've clearly taken time to learn about diabetes, and you're obviously a person who trusts your instincts. That's not a bad place to start

Thanks for the reply all and thanks jannabell I was a bit worried he didnt have a clue lol. he said hes sent the details to the hospital so now need to see if they follow it up. Im also due a eye scan and foot check but heard nothing of thoese either.

My other results okay anyone?
 
So I just had a thought I still have full private health care. And there is a specialist at the Spire murryfield in edinburgh for diabetes and endocrinoligy. I have been putting wieght on thanks actos and gliclizide :lol: And my blood sugers as per results are still not fantastic. Im thinking would it worth asking for a referel to him to see about proper diagnosis and possible victoza etc rather than waiting another 3 weeks to see my gp who didnt know what a gad or cpeptide test was or victoza for that matter.

Any thoughts on where to go other than a referal to the endo as to be honest if my doctor doesnt give me support or make me feel trusting in their diagnosis I wouldnt know where to go next seeing as he is the "specialist" gp at my doctors. And I hate causing issues.

Anyone?

Its early days - don't panic - your next HBA will show how you are going. What is your diet, & what dietary advice have you been given? Overnight readings should be 4-7, better 4-6. I cannot comment or advise on medication, but I am surprised by your treatment.

As a young supposedly T2, you should seek confirmation of the diagnosis.

I changed my dr when I completely lost confidence - he diagnosed a hernia as piles :evil: I went to the company dr who referred me to the hospital.

You have a condition you will live with for many years. Continuing good health requires proper diagnosis & treatment - including diet. You need a dr & medical team you can trust.

Diet is as low carb as I can, No sweets or crisps or junk. Occasional fruit. Can I ask why are you surprised by the medication ?

So its not a good idea to get a referal to Endo?
 

I do recommend seeing a specialist - Endo or other - especially if you don't trust your Dr, & aren't happy with your progress.

My surprise is that you were immediately put on medication. The usual recommendation is diet & weight loss, to see what you can achieve without medication, & then the first pill is metformin. My opinion is simply my opinion. You have to become your own expert - its your life, not your Dr's.

Are the results good?...

Cholesterol should be aiming at less than 5 so no problems, but keep watching it for maintenance...

BP should be aiming at less than 130/80, but improvements will come and your not miles away.

HBA1C is 8.9% is it good? - Well its a good start but you need to aim for a 6 month target of less than 6 as a T2 not on insulin.(As long as you are a T2!).

So an update.

Seen the doctor. Explained that the Actos and Gliclizide are still giving me daily headaches. Have now gained 8 lbs and blood sugers still 10-13 most days sometimes hitting 15. Asked for Victoza, told they dont have the facility for injections or something. and that he wants to keep me on the Actos and Put up the gliclizide to 1 tab a day then 2 after a week if still not improved. Thats right stay on the same but take more of the tablets that are putting my wieght on, giving me headaches daily and not working. I did get an endo appointment for 25th of march though so shall go from there. Oh also to take a another urine sample down again to make sure its not type 1 again. So im a not a happy bunny to say the least :|

Hopefully the endo will be good and see the light. And again hope my urine isnt type 1. Any thoughts
 
Just to keep those reading the thread updated seeing as it has lots of views :wink:

So 3 days of the bigger doeses and blood suger is still around the same, headaches are now worse than ever light actually hurts my eyes :lol: Wieght not increased any further \0/. I cant wait till I double this bigger dose next week
 
Hopefully you will get some answers from the Endo. I suppose you have to remember that a GP is just a General Practitioner, so not expert in anything really, unless they specialise in something that interests them.
Sounds like your GP has no interest in diabetes :roll:
Good luck with the Endo, but I found that when I went to see an Endo about my thyroid, there are those that will listen and those that won't :evil:
 
Hi Dave.

The only thing I can add is if your symptoms get worse or you feel that you are just too ill to wait, present yourself to your nearest A&E. If it turns out you are type one, you could be heading for a crisis that only acute treatment can help. Sometimes, we don't realise just how ill we are until we are better

Can anyone comment on diagnosing T1 with a urine sample? Is this possible?

Thanks for the info folks im hoping aswell that the endo will be good I will see them first and if it doesnt go satisfactory I will see one through my medical insurance. the gp is the Diabetic gp at the practice so can only hope he has a vague interest :lol: Also its a good point about the A&E sometimes when they spike into the late teens and my headaches are really bad I have thought about going straight there but always talked myself out of it knowing probably people with severe wounds needing seen first.

The urine sample she got in dec she dipped something into and said your not T1, so im assuming its what they wanted it for again no idea what shes dipping in it though lol.
 
I'm going to bump this in the hope that a T1 will be along. I'm pretty sure, unless I've missed something important over the years, that it is impossible to diagnose what type of diabetic one is by dipping wee.
She may have got it into her head that uncontrolled/newly diagnosed/undiagnosed T1's produce more glucose in their wee than T2's? If she did, find another GP.

Do you have any wee dipping sticks at home to test for ketones? If not, it would be worth getting some from the chemist. If and when your levels are high, test your wee. If there are ketones, get to A&E fast. I'm not kidding and I'm still hoping a T1 will come along soon and stick their oar in.

Thanks for the great advice wiflib much appreciated. The doctors surgery just phoned and allthough the didnt mention anything about the diabetes she informed me I have a Urinary infection.. this was news to me but she said explains my pain in kidneys area :lol: Great service so i have to pop down for anti biotics. I will grab some ketostix when im down if thats the correct ones?
