Folks
For the past four months I’ve had a painful and irritating rash on my shin. My GP initially started me on antibiotics then corticosteroid cream but they’d no effect at all. Next, it was checked out at the diabetic clinic and a biopsy arranged. I’ve now been told it is (had to write this down!) necrobiosis lipoidica diabeticorum.
I’ve just read the diabetes.co.uk page about it which was helpful. It says the cause is unknown but NLD is usually associated with poor glycemic control, and that improved management of blood glucose levels could improve or prevent the disorder. My HbA1c has never varied from between 5 and 7 so I’m more puzzled where the condition came from.
The diabetic consultant told me that it is a wee bit rare, some folks can have it for 20 years and apart from what my GP has already prescribed, there is nothing else they can give me.
Has anyone here who perhaps also has the condition tried alternative treatments e.g. herbal or even red light therapy? Happy to try anything because most nights I have problems sleeping because of the pain from it.
