Nail bed infection - why?

Hello, does anyone get infections in the corner of their nails? Like the pic attached. I’ve read it could be a sign of diabetes. It’s incredibly painful. I currently have two infections. Can anyone offer advice? I’ve been low carb for 6 weeks so don’t know why it’s suddenly happening.

That is how I was diagnosed 25 years ago. My background sugar level was impeding my ability to fight the infected nail bed. My GP worked it out and in a matter of minutes had confirmed the diagnosis.
