Hi All
Just wondered if anyone has heard of or done this course.
It is a 12 week course done at home on line. The leaflet said it is aimed at professionals but diabetics and their family/friends would also benefit from it. I have copied and pasted bits from the leaflet.
Overview
Over two million people in the UK currently have diabetes with numbers set to rise as obesity levels increase. This
programme outlines the principles of diabetes and also discusses how to manage the condition through diet,
exercise and attitude. In addition, the course looks at social issues around diabetes (such as job discrimination) and
explores prevention, complications and care.
Who is it for?
The Level 3 Certificate in Diabetes Awareness is ideal for those working in the health care sector who wish to
increase their awareness of diabetes in order to support their clients. However, it will also be of interest to anyone
with diabetes, or those with friends/relatives with diabetes, who wish to know more about the condition.
What are the benefits of doing this course?
The Department of Health and Diabetes UK recommend that all people with diabetes should have access to selfmanaged
structured education programmes developed to key quality standards.
This programme has a structured curriculum with a patient-centred philosophy. It explores ways to help prevent
diabetes in the first place, discusses diabetes self-management and considers how to reduce the risk of further
diabetes complications, such as cardiovascular disease, blindness, limb amputations, kidney failure and depression.
Learners will gain a comprehensive understanding of diabetes, whilst developing new skills in caring for people with
diabetes. The programme will provide the knowledge and skills to enable learners to provide a more informed and
person-centred standard of care.
Progression opportunities
The programme will enable candidates to further their own continuous professional development, improve career
prospects or progress to further training. Having successfully achieved this qualification, the learner may wish to
progress on to further qualifications, such as courses in health and social care, including NVQs. Please go to
http://www.tribalgroup.com/publishing for details of relevant Tribal programmes.
The course comprises four mandatory units:
Unit 01: Explore the principles of diabetes
Unit 02: Explore the management of diabetes
Unit 03: Prevention, complications and care of diabetes
Unit 04: Explore cardiovascular care for people with diabetes
Each unit contains activities designed to cover the specific learning
outcomes.
Candidates will be provided with the course materials for the programme
and will be required to work through a series of tasks and activities
designed to reinforce the learning process and test their knowledge.
This qualification is internally assessed, with the candidate completing a
portfolio of work that covers all learning outcomes of the qualification.
Any thoughts or opinions appreciated.
