Does anyone know if "nephrogenic diabetus insipidus" can lead to diabetes II? In my searches on the net NDI differs from diabetes II because it has to do with a hormone in the brain, and does not lead to elevated blood sugar as diabetes mellitus does. Is this all there is to it?

Thank you for any hints to pursue this question.

The two conditions are entirely separate . I looked into this a couple of years ago when my pet was suspected of having DI, and the vet confirmed my understanding.

DI is unrelated to blood sugar and only carries the "diabetes" name due to the similar symptoms of excessive drinking/weeing.

DI does not "lead to" diabetes mellitus, but having the one condition does not prevent a person from getting the other at some stage.

Thanks LittleSue -- that is basically what most of the articles i have read say too.
Because i have had diabetes insipidus/or mellitus for many years, i thought i would search for a possible transition from one to the other. Sorry about your dog; hope he or she is OK now.
