I have/do definitely get snappy with my wife and kids if my blood sugar is higher, which when looking back isn't very nice, but they understand..........well, the wife does, the kids are only young......
My wife accepts my diabetes and supports me by allowing me to manage on my own, I did it for many years before I met her so the impact of my condition doesn't really affect her in any way......
she is quite fussy with food, so she regularly doesn't eat the same as me, but she cooks my dinner anyway, I would literally eat anything and do, obviously healthy...
I organize my own appointments and can get myself to them so that isn't an issue either.........
Its nice to get support from your loved ones for sure, but for me being allowed to do my own thing is also important, I suppose that attitude towards it comes with time, which for me is 16 years....
your partner should be more supportive though, especially regarding the food and exercise..............you need to educate him and try to enjoy doing it....
