hello I’m Lara with type 1 Diabetes. About 3 weeks ago my hba1c came back at 68mmol . I was told over the phone to up my dosage by 2 units but I am taking dosages by carb counting. I went back to my gps last night to tell him that my sugars are not coming down and they are averaging out at 12 and 15.9 on a morning just to be told that he will do another blood test and up my dosage again. Is this right and just wondering if there is anywhere else or someone I can get a second opinion on as this has being going on for just over a year and is starting to really get to me .

If your BG is constantly high, it suggests to me that your basal dose is too low and may need adjusting.
Have you done a basal test recently?
I also find when my BG is high (above 14), I become insulin resistant and need bolus to correct (sometimes as much as twice as much as I thought).
My final idea is that your insulin to carb ratio may not be quite right and could need adjusting.
However, it is usually best to get your basal right first and then start tweaking bolus.
Good luck.

I don't know where you are based but you really need to be talking to a Diabetic Specialist Nurse.
You should be able if in the UK to have access to a diabetic clinic usually at a local hospital.
There are special courses available for T1 diabetics. DAFNE being one with many variations on its theme.
Online courses are also available. bertieonline.com.
Your GP sounds uneducated in the finer art of diabetes management.

Take a look at this: https://www.uclh.nhs.uk/PandV/PIL/Patient information leaflets/Basal and bolus testing.pdf it explains how to do a basal test.
I think the suggested corrections refer to a pump (and are per hour) but you can make adjustments of the minimal amount on your Lantus or other basal insulin if you are doing injections.
Probably best to make small adjustments for a week or to and then test again.
