I've been on Lantus and Novolog for more than 17 years, and until recently, my need for Novolog was holding its own, in other words, I used so many units per meal according to my planned intake of carbs.
However, over the last few weeks, my need for Novolog has just about disappeared. I noticed the decline in that I began having sugar lows, after meals, and I began to decrease the units I was used to taking. Even my need for Lantus at bedtime has demonstrated the need to cut back on the number of over-all units, because I was having low sugar counts the following day.
Right now, I can manage to eat without using any Novolog, and in order to keep from the dreaded sugar lows, I began cutting back on Lantus too!
My question is, have any of you experienced such a radical change in the need for fast acting and long acting insulins? BTW - I have not lost any weight, and my weekly exercise is the same as it's been since 1991. My food hasn't changed, so it's not that. I just wondered if it's possible to see the need for insulin do as mine has done, dry up and go away! My doctor just tells me to use less insulin, and make sure I don't have a serious sugar low. At first, that was a problem, but now I am eating first, checking my numbers 30 minutes later and taking insulin if numbers warrant it!
I think this is strange, but I thought some of you may have ideas. Thanks!
