I really feel like I need some help, I was diagnosed as type 2insulin dependant about 5years ago. I don't feel like I get the support I should from the local doctors and I am struggling to get my blood sugars under control, I have been using Humalog and Lantus for most of this time, but due to the inconsistent result of the blood sugar test my doctor has now decided to try me on Insuman combi, now here is the worrying bit. My bloods I in the morning like today read 13.7. My lunchtime read 7.9 and my before evening read 27.9. My diet I though was a pretty good diet with fresh veg and meat. Pasta and such like.. But for the life of my I cannot get a consistent reading and looking on this site I am way off where I should be,,,

What do I need to do to get the blod sugar readings to what I will call and acceptable level... Is it my diet , lack of exercise. Or what .?

Oh and sometime I have hypos where my readings are as low as 2

Hi. I'm slightly surprised that you were moved from a Basal/Bolus insulin regime to a mixed insulin? Normally you can get better control potentially with the former. I would ask the GP what the advantages are supposed to be with the mixed insulin. It does require less action from you but can't be fine-tuned as well. With Basal/Bolus you can carb-count but this must be done to get good blood sugar control. Also are you low-carbing? This reduces sugar swings

to be honest I am not really sure what low carb diet is, its not until I found this forum that I had even heard of the effect of carbs can have on my diabetes, the doctors practice I use does not have a diabetic nurse associated with it, all of my appointments are with the doctor, I have since found out that one of the hospitals in the area has a dietician that I am going to ask to be referred to ..

I would suggest that you ask for a referral to a diabetes specialist as well.

Sorry to put a downer on your plans but one of the difficulties that comes up repeatedly on this forum is that the advice given out by NHS dietitians is wrong. They toe the party line and advocate the healthy eating plate or similar. Mine wrote in my action plan that I was to eat carbs with every meal without any mention of quatities. I have an enlightened diabetic nurse and she was appalled when she read it.
