Need someone to ease my mind.

Ok so i know this technically should be in the DVLA section but i thought i would post here as it seems people are more active on this section.

So basically i have a group 2 license, and it's due up for renewal very shortly, and what with covid pretty much (for me at least) cancelling any sort of appointments i would normally have it's meant that i haven't seen anyone this year, and through the summer months i admit where i went through diabetes burnout but whilst i still do suffer from it i do have 3 months worth of readings on my meter with mostly good readings, the odd hypo that's quickly corrected and a few readings a bit higher than what they would like.

I'm at my wit's end thinking i am going to be out of a job because of having seen nobody for an appointment ( not particularly out of choice) which may look negligible on my end but then also that my current hba1c when the result comes in also may look unfavorable due to burnout, even though i have never had needed the assistance of anyone like an ambulance etc.

Can anyone ease my mind at all, or should i expect the worst :-(

Can’t help in detail but I attempted to get my HGV license just before COVID & I had an almighty carry on. Got past from pillow to post, private medical then a GP medical & then finally an independent medical with a consultant. My readings where pretty much like yours & I had also just gone through burnout where I wasn’t checking my bloods as much I should of so I had little gaps in my readings. Eventually I knocked it on the head & told DVLA to cancel my application, I just had a niggly feeling they weren’t happy with what they where seeing on my results & I feared they could revoke my normal license. Turns out it probably wasn’t the case as when I cancelled my application they used the Medicals I had just had as to Renew my 3 year restricted license which wasn’t actually due for renewal at the time. As you’ll know it’s a lot easier for a standard licence over a group 2 though. I wouldn’t worry too much as I’m sure they have a process in place because of the COVID carry on.

Group 2 license renewal.. hmm.. im in the same boat.. mine actually expired in November..


So long as you have sent the renewal documents and dvla acknowledge having them, then you can continue to drive for upto 12 months on an expired license

Think its section 88... phone dvla they will send you a letter confirming this... call of email your GP to confirm they see no reason why you can't drive.. so long as they are OK.. carry on

I drive hazchem, and have regular audits and the have accepted this

Hypos are ok and it looks suspicious if you don't have them... but you must have been aware and treated it yourself

The consultant is only to check the last 3 months is complete what happened before that is irrelevant to him.. but in one of those periods if you get stopped by vosa and the want to check your meter for that last 3 months and its not complete you are in breach of the terms of your license.. so it is important you do atleast 2 tests a day to stay legal
 
Oh and as for hba1c. If its high it doesn't matter the consultant will look at high reading on your meter and may say they are not good.. he doesn't care about high he is only concerned that you have the correct number and they are not too low all the time

Yeah i have seen the consultant that the DVLA pay for a couple of times before now, he's only ever looked to see if i have had 3 months worth of readings etc and occasionally tried to catch me out with questions to see if i am "aware" of things whilst driving etc, but did wonder if the DVLA on there end had any other deciding factors like no appointments for eyes been tested or bloods.

I understand they have to do these things, but for me at least it brings on so much more stress on top of what's already at times a stressful issue having type 1 to begin with.
 
I went for a couple of years without as I got fed up so the dvla consultant noted that I had not had eye screening done for 3 years.. so the dvla sent me to a specsavers but I think the dvla understand the last 12 months
