Hi

I was doing really well before Christmas came along. I know it's no excuse but i fell into my old ways and can't beleive that I put a stone on! I didnt know it was possible in 2 weeks.

Now i can't seem get back into it. And the more i fail the more depressed i feel, and when i feel down i eat. I have got to get out of this cycle before it overtakes me again! Has Anyone else felt like this?

Oh yes.
And this time of year is notorious for it. So you aren't alone!

What is the regime you want to get back to?

Carb counting?
Low carb?
Low fat?
Regular testing?
Back to the gym?

I do best when I ease into things. One step at a time.
My partner likes to make big changes in one fell swoop.
Both work.

Which is best for you?

Hi

I want to get back into low carbing and the gym. the thing is I'm great during the day. its in the evening that gets me. I'm going to start writing my carbs down and try 50g like you, would I lose weight on that amount? because I need to lose it as I want to conceive as soon as healthily possible as I'm 38 and feel time is running out.

thanks

Vic

I'm not strictly low carbing as I probably average about 70g per day during the week and a little more at week-ends. However I have gone back to eating butter and the full fat versions of milk, greek yoghurt and mayonaise to name but a few and I managed to lose 8kg from August to December last year. I'm now back to my pre-Christmas weight and am losing about 1lb a week. In addition my cholesterol in August was 5.9 and in December it had reduced to 4.2 despite not being on statins. If I want anything to eat in the evening I have nuts or, if I'm feeling particularly lazy, I just have a teaspoon or two of peanut butter!!

Most people seem to lose weight on 50g carbs, but of course it also depends on the fats and proteins you are eating on top of the carbs. ;)

But I should state straight up, I am not a supporter of rapid weight loss and calorie counting. At 47 I have spent more than 30 years over weight, and tried numerous diets. Of course I can only speak for myself, but every time I have tried a low calorie or low fat diet it has worked in the short term, followed by rebound weight gain, ending up larger than before. The only weight loss that has worked consistently and comfortably, is using low carb, with enough fat that I don't feel hungry. Provided I walk far enough each day, the weight is slowly drifting downwards (20lbs in 9 months). I'm delighted, since my body doesn't seem to like the fast weight loss.

You will find many other opinions on this forum, so you need to pick a diet and lifestyle that suits you. :)

Re the gym and low carbing. I would start the diet change first. Get the adjustment period over first, and when your energy level picks up, the gym will seem like a possibility, not a hurdle. :D

HI

slow weight loss is better I had lost 3 stone over 2 years but put a stone back on over Christmas. I am on tablets as I had an overactive thyroid so that with taking insulin may have played a part in the weight gain. I know the first week of low carbs is hard no energy permenant headache but ive read on the forum about replacing salt and drinking bovril. that might help. congratulations on your weight loss.

Well done on the weight loss whats that in stones? I'd read about peanut butter as a snack but thought it had added sugar, do you use the one with no added sugar or just standard?

Thanks.

It delights me every time I notice that there is less of me. :D

Ha Ha I was like that too before Christmas as I hadn't been 16 stone for a long time and my stomach had nearly disappeared and clothes fit me that I had kept in the wordrobe to slim into. must get back into it. feeling determined now!
