Hi everyone
Diagnosed with T1 in March so all very new still. I have my foot check up soon with my doctor but I am so worried. I’ve been getting a burning, numb feeling in both my ankles and feet for just over a week now. When I google it it obviously says it’s neuropathy and I just feel so deflated.
I feel like I’ve gone from no health issues to T1 diabetes and now potentially neuropathy in my feet which could get worse. It’s scary. I’m a mum to a 14 month old and I don’t know when this gets easier. My time in range over the last 90 days is 84% so not too bad, but the complications are scaring me

Try not to worry too much. Even non-diabetics can get the symptoms that you mention. The positive thing to do is to try to keep your blood glucose readings within a healthy range. Years ago when Dr Richard Bernstein wrote his Diabetes Solution he said that when diabetics started to eat a low-carbohydrate diet, even those with previous neuropathy damage found that their symptoms were reduced.

Some people find reducing their blood sugars too fast can lead to temporary neuropathy.
This is one of the reasons dsns usually bring the target down slowly.
Sadly, this is rarely highlighted on forum that just focus on staying low.

I suspect that what is going on is an adjustment of your body. Have you had problems with your eyesight too? Mine was atrocious on diagnosis but repaired itself in 3 months. I have also had issues just recently with numb and tingling toes. 10 years in I too was very worried. However, when I eventually got my podiatrist appointment and had a thorough foot medical I was found to have a trapped nerve problem. Sorted with shoe inserts.
It is very early days in your journey for health issues. Please don’t worry about things that may never happen and concentrate on getting to grips with management and good control, be that low, moderate or eat what you want amount of carbs.
