Neuropathy

Hi all,

The last 3 months I've felt this numbness in my theigh very short intervals. Once a night for 2 seconds. Last month I noticed my foot on the same leg went completely numb. Last night my theigh felt like it was on fire the area of feeling had increased and the length of the incident had increased dramatically to 20 minutes. I spoke to a diabetic nurse today, an appointment has been made for me to see someone in a month, I've also made a gp apointment too.

Can someone please explain neuropathy, is this permanant. I'm 25 and have been a type 1 diabetic for 20 years and in the last 2 half years my control hasnt been good. HB1AC two weeks ago was 8.2.
I'm just worried, I don't know what to think and this is the first time I've had any complications. I just feel so upset and distraught as prior to the last couple of years I've always had good results I can't believe I've inflicted this on my self in a matter of a couple of years.

I just feel a wreck and don't know what to think. Can someone please explain what this means for my future.

Thank you

Hi Pinkalish

Sorry you are having a worrying time. :( It sounds as if you need to see your doctor who will be able to give you a definitive answer.

From what I have read on this forum neuropathy, if that is what it is, can be reversed by good BG control and since you already know that your control has not been good that is a good place to start.

Do you know how different foods affect your BG levels? A bit of detective work could be helpful too, testing before and after meals, as you can then reduce or cut out those foods which take you up higher than is safe for you.

I don’t really know anything about T1 but hopefully someone will be along soon who may be able to help you better. :)
