Hi All

I was diagnosed a week ago and its all a little much right now but I just don't get it. I washed my hands, tested my blood because I feel so shaky and my blood tested at 5.6 but I show traces of ketones...eh!

Welcome to the forum, Lizbet.

Just to get you started, if you feel shaky at 5.6, it suggests your blood sugars habitually run much higher than normal. Once you bring them under improved control, the point at which you get the shakes will fall to a more normal 3.something.
As for the ketones, 5.6 isn't high enough to generate them, so they are probably reisdual from the last time your numbers were up above 15 or so. If you're just diagnosed this may have been quite a bit of the time until recently.

All the best,

fergus

Welcome. You are in the right place to get information. Everyone is so helpfully here.

For the first few weeks after my daughter was diagnosed she felt hypo at around 6. But things soon settled down. Its always best to check. Then if unsure wash hands and re check, you are doing it exactly right.

Hope you feel a bit calmer soon, and as much as you feel you need to know everything take it slowly as you don't want information overload. You need to remain calm and positive.

Good luck,
