How all,

I recently decided to get a diabetes and cholesterol test done as I'm getting to an age (40) where this kind of stuff plays on my mind. Especially as I've never been one for healthy eating. I do however go to the gym 4-5 times a week.

I've just received my results for both the tests and I'm just after some advice as to what they actually mean. This is all new to me. I got a graph with my results showing red/yellow/green sections but when I try look at the actually figures it says there's a intermediate risk.

Any advice on my results and what they mean would be greatly appreciated. So i can take action on them.

My results are below and were done fasted for 10 hours.

HbA1c 34 mmol/mol (fasted)
Cholesterol 4.6 mmol/l (fasted)
HDL 0.65 mmol/l (fasted)
Non-HDL 3.99 mmol/l (fasted)
Triglycerides 2.89 mmol/l (fasted)

Diagnostic point for diabetes is 48mmol. Pre diabetes starts at 42mmol. 34 is excellent.

Most people want most people under 5 for total cholesterol. It’s a pointless and oversimplified measure that needs a lot more breaking down if that total to be in anyway meaningful Imo and that of many experts these days. Hdl could improve, as could triglycerides. I’m guessing cholesterol is where they want improvement. You might want to read deeper than just the headlines of “cholesterol is bad” before deciding what is any action you want to take. This might start you off https://www.dietdoctor.com/cholesterol
