I saw on BBC Breakfast this morning that there is a new Atkins diet. Does anyone have any information about it and how does it compare to the low carb diet? They said it had a lot more vegetables than the original diet. This new diet was created by a team of 3 doctors.

I've done a bot of reading on this - the "new" Atkins is not all that different to the old Atkins. People that have actually read Dr. Atkins Diet Revolution will tell yo uthat there are LOADS of fruits and vegetables allowed.

The main difference in the "new" Atkins is that they DO allow some bread, potatoe and pasta (and other simple carbohdrate foods).

Hi
I've just read a new book by Hannah Sutter called "Big Fat Lies" (ISBN 978-1-906821-37-1 )that may be of interest to you. Although the general thrust of the book is to tell you how the government is lying to you about what is good for us to eat and what is bad. The concluding chapters do however, expain why what is basically an Atkins diet is the best way to loose and maintain weight safely. This claim is based upon new and previously unpublished information and does look quite convincing. Judge for yourself, good luck.

Hi Gary,

I don't think I will be rushing out to buy this book. It would seem that Sutter is another one jumping on the band wagon and reaping in the rewards by trying to flog us books and a weight loss programs via her website. I am sure that she is a lawyer by trade and has no scientific qualifications, just a vested interest in the subject (and money of course).

As ever it is best to eat to your meter and make sure that you have all the necessary nutrients whilst keeping the portions fairly small. 8)
