The meter I have been using since I was diagnosed as type 2 is about to give up the ghost. It is an accuchek nano. This model is no longer made. It has an electrical fault, but I believe the results it gives have been consistent over many years.

My GP has recommended a a Gluco RX Nexus to replace the old one. The main reason for this choice is that they will supply test strips on prescription for it. So I went ahead and got the one they recommended.

Doing a comparison between the two meters has thrown up an anomaly.

Before lunch today I did a test using both meters. My old one gave a reading of 6.0 and the new meter gave a reading of 8.2. Both readings were taken on the same finger.

A test using the new meter with a calibration solution says the new meter is giving results within its declared range, although it was at the higher end of the range.

So my question is this. Is it normal for different meters to have such a disparity of readings. Is it just a matter of getting used to the new meter. Several other tests have given results which are proportionally similar the the lunchtime test.

Thanks.

even with the same brand and type of meter they can show a difference, I think to be within margins its within 10-15% difference they can show

If the control solution is showing it within the ranges then I'd just stick with it
