Hi Everybody

I have just been diagnosed with T2. I have been put on tablets (metformin).

I don't know whether I am scared, in denial or just plain confused. I don't if all doctors do this but mine certainly does. He told me that they are quite sure that it is T2, shouldn't they know before they give me tablets?

I have to buy a blood glucose tester and just found out how much the strips are, YIKES.

Anyway I ramble when I am nervous so I will leave you all to have a lovely day.

hiya

i cant help with advice as my son is type one but i just wanted to offer my support and welcome u to the site there will be many people available to help u who have been through what u are going through now, the test strip issue is a highly debated subject here there is a petition to sign to try and get test strips free for type 2s the same as it is for type 1s as they are a vital tool in helping u treat ur diabetes and are very expensive to fund.

good luck

I think that (apart from stomach upset related side-effects when you first start taking them), that Metformin are generally beneficial, helping your BG control and aiding weight loss. I think that there is also some evidence that they help protect your hearts.

Someone on this forum was once told by a GP that (s)he would put everyone (diabetic or not) on Metformin if the NHS could afford it.

Hi Karuna and welcome to the forum It is all very confusing when you are first diagnosed - we have all been through it, but it gets easier. Here is some basic information we give out to new members to help them get started in their diabetes care. I think it will be useful to you. Ask as many questions as you like as there is always someone here to help.

Hi Karuna, lots of us know exactly how you feel. Read the advice that Daisy has posted above and ask any questions that you think of. People on hear are very friendly and a massive help. Ebay is a favorite haunt to buy strips, usually about half the price that the high street charges.

Might be worth ringing another doctors up and just asking because you know what people can be like. One say one thing and another says another. Trust me on this ive had a lot of trouble with job seekers
