This sounds like exciting news!! The MiniMed 640G mimics the pancreas's natural ability to predict and prevent these low blood sugar episodes, It says that in clinical trials it prevented eight in 10 hypos, including in those who had just exercised. It will apparently be available for free for people who are eligible for insulin pumps,

It is amazing technology but it does require Medtronic Enlite glucose sensors linked to the 640g pump to perform all the hypo prediction and prevention functions. The Continuous Glucose Monitor (CGM) part - due to cost and also no specific NICE guidelines- isn't funded very often by CCG's. Hopefully the price of sensors will start to decrease with wider use so that more people can benefit from the great developments in diabetes management.
