My GP Surgery has been doing it this way since I was diagnosed 5 years ago. The surgery mail me out the blood test requests prior to my diabetic review - this gives me time to have my blood test taken at the local hospital. The nurse will review the results, do the foot checks and ask about depression etc., weight me and so on. All this is logged onto the system for the GP to review. The GP will discuss any anomalies found and medication. I have been off statins for over a year as after 3 years I got an anomaly on my blood work with my liver. This turned out to be caused by the statins. I was put back on them about 6 weeks ago, and straight off i have another anomaly on my liver. My GP is liaising with a specialist at the hospital as to best course of action. Yes, my colestral is now almost reading normal (3.7) on 10mg of statin per day. It is good when surgery's give time to those of us dealing with a life long condition. On the whole we plough on, regularly changing our diets, what activities we do, but we also need their support and input. The good news for me the other week is that the guidelines for Dietetics have changed, so I no longer need to take the 75mg Aspirin daily - one less tablet to take is always good.
