I have just been diagnosed and had been on steroids for a chest infection, my reading tonight is 10.2 off to the clinic tomorrow do you think this will level out

Hi Penny,

You never mentioned if you were diagnosed Type 1 or 2.
This reading while not in the ideal range should not overly concern you just right now. It can actually do more harm than good to bring your levels down to "normal" too quickly if you have been running high for a while.

It is difficult to gauge what will happen off a single reading but by the same token just a single high is nothing to get hugely worried about, it is the long term constant highs that are the problem.

You mentioned that you are on steroid for an infection, these do cause some insulin resistance, and infection does cause elevated sugars too. So once you get better and are off the steroids you will probably find that things level out.

Good luck and don't be scared to ask questions at the clinic tomorrow. Speak to the Diabetic Specialist Nurses in particular, they tend to have a more practical view on things and are a brilliant resourse that you should not be scared to use.

Anyd of course there is this forum which in many ways is an even better resource since we all know what you are going through in one way or another.

Best of luck and hope you start to feel better soon.

/A
