Hi. After 2 years of thinking i was type 2 on insulin i saw my consultants brilliant registrar, who obviously read my notes before she saw me, and she has re-diagnosed me as type 1. Im relatively slim, my dad was type 1 - diagnosed in his late 40's ( i was 54) and missing taking metformin occasionally didnt make any difference to me. Seems to explain the struggle to keep my readings levelish after meals, even after 'non raising ' foods. Im now being taken off metformin, staying on lantus and adding a quick acting insulin before meals. Not seen my nurse yet so not started new regime. Just wondered if anyone else has been in this situation and what to expect.

Hi Syl 1,

There are many of us on here that have been through the same senario so you are in good company

You will probably find that due to the last 2 years as a 'type 2' you have effectively killed off most of your insulin production and so your transfer onto quick acting insulin will be reasonable and you won't suffer the roller coaster effects of the honeymoon period. I went onto insulin last August after 21 months as a type 2 and my insulin requirements and ratios have not hardly varied over the last 9 months.

Regards
Angie

Thanks Angie. Good to know im not on my own. Gets a bit confusing at times especially when iv not eaten anything bad to shoot up my levels but it still happens. Looking forward to hopefully getting sorted. :)
