I'm a type 2 diabetic on metformin and byetta, I have had a real problem keeping to a proper diet, I do love chocolate! Anyway, for the past 7 days I have eaten a proper diet, no sweets, chocolate, anything I shouldn't and it's going really well. My BMs have gone from double figures down to pretty much normal. I have also taken my byetta injection twice a day every day for the last week too, which is about twice what I was taking.

This is all great and I'm proud of myself but my BM has dropped to 3.5 this evening, I had a jog before a sensible dinner, but I don't know what to do... I'll go see my diabetic nurse (I'm under the gp surgery only), but in the meantime:

Do I keep taking all my medication even though my diet has changed?

What should I eat/drink when I'm hypo? I've had love hearts this evening, but I'd like to avoid sweets...

Should I omit my byetta if I exercise?

I'm so scared of adverse events pushing me back to chocolate, I'd appreciate any advice!

Hi ginger,

Well done for getting your blood sugars down and the strong will power for staying off the choccy.

I'm not gonna advise you on meds, you should agree that with your medical team. And i don't know anything about byetta anyway.

But if you need to correct a hypo, then liquids are generally absorbed more quickly than solids. I use Lucozade, but fresh orange juice and full sugar coke can also be used.

Hope you get things sorted out.
