New HbA1c for me

Hi,

Just wanted to be a bit happy even though there is still some way to go, certainly.

I got a new Ha1c yesterday which only has 1.5 months of my 'new' stuff in it (insulin and better diet).

But it's down from 8.6 (11 avg) to 7 (9.6 avg) so I am excited to see what the full 3 month improvement is going to be.

I've been sick now for a while with surgery, a deep cut that needed stiches, infection and fever, so that isn't helping as well as having to cut down on my walks isn't, but generally, I think I'm having it worked out for the main part.

When I am not unwell, my daily readings are generally in the 'normal' range - 4.5-6.5 or so, which is the best I can do for the moment until I get the carbs worked out entirely and also get a bit better at reducing dose to match my long walks and so on.

Oh, and I started insulin, then decided I was so NOT going to put on weight, so I lost a stone or so in 1.5 months also without too much trouble - carb-caring, I guess.

Total loss now for the past 12 months is roughly 4 stone, and a 7 stone total from my max. Need to lose another 3 ish stone.

That's brilliant, it's amazing what happens once you cut down the carbs, well done you!!   :D

This website's converter turns an HbA1c of 8.6 into an average of 12.7 (an average of 11 would be an HbA1c of 7.7) so you've done better than you thought. Especially with probable elevated levels from your illness.
Well done you

And don't forget that about half of your HbA1c reflects the last 30 days or so, but I know what you mean about a reading totally reflecting your new stuff.

Great news Mileana another low carb success!

Don't forget when you get the 3 month one done and get one that I'm sure will be fantastic don't forget to tell the doc how you did it. The more GP's we convert the better it will be for others like us in the future.

My dietician was a right pain in the proverbial as she was a new girl there and didn't even know about carb-counting much less low-carbing. She told me it was ********, then gave me a pamflet she clearly hadn't read, explaining what I had just told her.

Apart from having smoke coming out of my ears, I couldn't help but chuckle.

I then, true to myself, sent it off to her in the mail, asking her to read it for future reference and consider whether I may have been right about some of the other BS I told her to trust me with...

Well done Mileana

I like how you say when you get your 3 month one done. I was at my surgery last week for what I thought was my 3 month test results and was told not to bother coming back for a year. If I was someone who didn't pay for equipment myself and constantly test I would be completely at sea. I have never seen a doctor either only a nurse and I have to check everything she says as half of it is complete nonsense. Thanks NHS real good service!!!!!

Just applied for my Exemption certificate I am going to take what they give as it is so little now, I certainly do not feel guilty they seem to be reducing any sort of help for me as a diabetic in great leaps and bounds.
