New HBA1C numbers

Can someone please tell me what the new way of reading them is now, as mine should be 53 but is 50. So my doctor has took me off my metformin but did nog explain it to me.

Should your HbA1c be 53 or is that simply a threshold or target that your Dr has chosen? I know in Scotland the HbA1c target is still 53mmol/mol, but Englandshire have fairly recently reduced that number to 48mmol/mol. That is just a target that warrants "good control", it's not a goal - the numbers can always come down further:

Providing you're not suffering from hypoglycemia, or any other health issues which would require your HbA1c to be slightly raised, then you should aim to have an HbA1c as low as possible.

50 is not a bad value at all, and is certainly better than 53. Always room for improvement though
