Hiya,

I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetis in October last year after being unwell for almost two months with a chest infection. I was constantly tired had no energy and lost 1 stone within a month. Thankfully my recovery was much quicker!! Only three days in hospital and i was back home and had gained 4 lbs (probably all fluids!!)

I was off work for 5 1/2 weeks as i was still really struggling with energy levels. The doctors wanted to sign me off until xmas but i returned to work late November and was glad i did as it isnt until you get back to normality that you can really get a grasp on your diabetis. When i was off it all seemed so easy, my sugar levels where great! When i first went back to work i really struggled, early starts, being more active, eating at different times due to meetings etc i suffered quite a few hypos, especially during the night. I actually found myself becoming quite depressed and if i am honest it has only been the past few weeks that i have truly felt back to my old self again!

But now that i have FINALLY come to terms with the changes in my life i thought i would join this forum and learn as much as i can about taking care of myself and any hints and tips, until now i guess i didnt want to admit that this is me living with diabetis now for the rest of my life....but it is....and thats ok by me now!!! :D

So hello to all of you!!!! SJ

Hello smithsj and welcome. :)

Sorry to hear how unwell you have been but glad to hear that you have got to grips with things and are feeling so much better.

Hello SJ. I experienced the same irregular schedule when I started working many years ago and my blood sugar did flip flops frequently. Many hypos just like you. I had to make a log and record every test, insulin dosage, and activity throughout the day and night. I studied the log and began making changes with my basal/bolus management and my carb counting. Things improved and I felt much better.

In am rather new here on this site, but I suspect there are many experienced type 1 diabetics here. Ask all the questions you want. Good luck in the months ahead!

Hi, I'm not sure if I should be on here, because I've not been diagnosed yet, but I have an appointment at 2.30 this afternoon and I'll find out then! I have a diabetic daughter and it was her just randomly asking me if I wanted to test my blood sugars that I found out something was wrong. I still dont believe that the answer will be yes, you have diabetes, because to be honest I dont really have the usual symptoms, except two high blood sugar readings (my daugher says I'm in denial) maybe so! I went to the doctor two days ago and had some blood tests taken so I'm not going to be able to deny it now am I ? Nice to know there is a forum for all my questions, I'll get back to you later...........

Hi babs,

Hope you don't have to be here after today. If you are diagnosed then come back and ask as many questions as you like.
