Hi all, Newbie to this site. I don't have Diabetics but my husband has just been diagnosed with type 2. I'm here for information on how to help him and to gain help with food.
We have cut out all sugar and eat a very low carb diet. He has lost a lot of weight (15 stone to 13 stone) and his 5"10. His BIM is now in the healthy rage. I hoping to get him of the medication with helping him to eat the right type of foods now.
We both live in Abu Dhabi UAE but from the UK originally.
Sounds like you already have a good handle on your hubby’s T2, many of us here us low carb, very low carb and keto ways of eating to manage our T2, have a good read around the forum lots of advice and tips, if your looking for ideas for food the threads on what I’ve eaten today have some great ideas, also the recipes thread.
Don’t be shy in asking any questions, we are a friendly bunch who are happy to help where we can
Congratulations to Mr Coco-007 on the weight loss too
Welcome @Coco-007
Looks like you are doing all the right things, the weight loss is excellent and should help with his blood sugars.
Anything you are unsure about, just ask, there is usually someone here who knows the answers,or where to find them
Hello and welcome @Coco-007
There is info for new members just below my signature in this post. Have a read, then come back with any questions you may have. It seems you have already discovered low carb way of eating. Does your husband also have access to blood glucose meter for monitoring how what he eats affects his levels?
I also suggest that you encourage your husband to join, too, so that he can ask questions and gain insight himself.

Hi, Yes he has the finger prick tester But the cat has ran off with the pen bit (The bit you stab your finger with) LOL. We have yet to find it. He's not that keen on the 14 day patchiest. We got one yesterday and the size of the needle point put him off. (Baby) lol. I will try and get him to join this group as we don't have one out here. He was diagnosed January this year. he has check ups every 6 months here which is great but he has problems keeping the weight on. Not sure what I need to do with food to keep him feeling full?
If you have reduced the carb content, have you increased the fat content of his diet. By that I don’t mean doughnuts and the sort of fats in highly processed foods. More of the healthier stuff, olive oil, nuts and seeds, full fat milk, or cream, cheese, oily fish, bacon, eggs.

You can use the fingerprick lancets without the pen bit, but that might take some more bravery than he has available.
As for the Libre, I promise it doesn't hurt to apply them!
You could sneak up on him when he sleeps of course, he'll wake up from the noise, applying one is loud, but that's only after the sensor will already be on his arm...
Not sure if this is a good idea though, I don't want to ruin your marriage!
