Hi I'm new here and I was diagnosed type 2 just over a year ago . My wife has been type 1 for over 30 yrs and I'm still trying to adjust my life . My main problem is that the diabetic nurses at my local clinic just don't seem that bothered . I've asked to be referred to a hospital clinic that my wife attends but have been refused . Any one else having this problem ?
Sorry you are having problems with your DN at your local clinic. This seems to be par for the course I'm afraid, at least as far as diet advice is concerned. (Mine is lovely though). In what way are you having problems with your DN?
The main problem is their attitude most of the time . Like most I've had problems adjusting and getting conflicting info can be very confusing . They mainly deal with older patient and I'm in my late 40s with a very active job and trying to get a happy medium with my bloods is hard and the DN are not too good at listening lol
I think that type 2's are generally left to find their own way of controlling blood sugar levels, other than the out of date incorrect nutrition advice they dish out, usually high carbs and low everything else. Type 1 and type 2 are different, with different approaches. You have come to the right place for helpand advice.
If you tell us what your blood levels are, and what you typically eat, and what your main problems are, we may be able to help.
It is quite rare for a Type2 to be referred to a Hospital unless your G.P. thinks you need a specialist to assess you.
There are people younger than you with Type2 who have to rely on their surgery for their care.
Have you spoken to your G.P. and told him that you are unhappy with your care?
Yes I've spoken to my doctor and was told that it was the way they work and I would have to try to understand them ( which I've tried ) my bloods have been running a bit high lately so they average between 9.5 and 12 I try to eat a low carb diet and stopped all sugar drinks except for my coffee lol
