New insulin user

I started insulin on Monday this week, Humalin M3, and was started on 8 units am and 6 units pm but as yet has not had much effect on my sugar levels, currently lowest 13 and highest 22. How long do you leave the insulin before it is adjusted to lower the blood sugar?

With basal insulin the usual advice is to adjust the dose every 3 days if necessary, so I'd use the same advice for mixed insulin with a basal component.

I have spoken to my diabetic nurse and am increasing the evening dose to 8 and she is going to review it on Friday after a couple more days of insulin use. I want to get my blood sugar levels down so it reduces harm on my body, am cutting back on carbs to try to help this as well. It will be good when I am allowed to start controlling the insulin myself so can experiment under guidelines without obviously doing anything silly.
