New job - new diabetic "friend"

Starting a new position today. There is another T1 on my team. He is also late onset like me. I've decided he's going to be my new best friend

Shame he is giving me evils from the desk he's been moved to so I can have his..... Further work needed on this friendship haha
 
To be fair..... I'm not even sure he's diabetic. The guy next to me said he was and that he was diagnosed 10 years ago while he saw me injecting for breakfast. But that same man is now talking to himself.... So he could be so spreading some weird rumour about the other guy haha he's clearly a nut case!

Any thing is possible in this industry!

My new best pal is still not pleased with me either haha

Seems he doesn't take a great care of his diabetes and certainly isn't keen to talk about.

We're both on this project for the next year, that gives me 12 months to slowly pass him info and guidance while trying not to offend him.....

Game on!
 
We had a team dinner last night, sitting opposite me meant he had I option but to see me test and inject and so obviously the topic came up!

Seems he's not T1, he's T2 apparently. He's late 50s and very slim, diagnosed 17 years ago. That's fine, I know that T2s can be slim. But he's also on insulin, just long acting but insulin all the same. This struck me as odd! He takes the metformin too, and has been on the insulin for a few years.

I know I'm no expert, but with that combination it sounds more LADA or MODY! But then maybe I'm being sucked into the overweight T2 stereotype!

It would strike me as LADA or MODY as well, there's a guy on my course also type one when he was offered one banana bread on a field trip declined and said he couldn't he was diabetic, so everyone started asking him questions what type was he did he have to watch his circulation etc. He thought he was type 2 he didn't know the difference, I couldn't help myself from waging in and correcting all the stereotypes about T1 and T2 and then telling him he was T1. I think he thinks I'm a complete ##### now and it's mucho awkward.
Lots of people that were diagnosed in adulthood were just labelled T2 especially 17 years ago so he may well be but he may also just be T2 though as well, some do take injections as they are really resistant.
 
You would hope that someone would know their own type, but I guess 17 years ago MODY or LADA weren't really a thing so he wouldn't have been diagnosed! It's obviously working "fine" for him so if he's happy then who am I to butt in!

I also find it fascinating that he just doesn't CARE about diabetes really, whereas I'm always interested. And not just in T1 things. Maybe it's because I'm still new to it, or maybe I'll stay this way forever!

I cant understand people who are not interested in their DB I have friends who are type 2 and when I ask how there BGs are after they have been for a check up they just say the nurse says its "normal" :?: I get a print out of all my results and take it home to compare how I am getting on and anything I am not happy about I Google and ask on forums to make sure that I am looking after myself the best way I can I do think that I would do that for any thing that was not right with me but some just think"Doctor knows best " and dont care Maybe I am just nosy :roll:

Maybe we're both nosey! I like to know what else I can do, always aim to improve!
 
THERE'S ANOTHER ONE!!

Type 2 though and even with a little nudge towards testing she maintains her doctors says it's not necessary. Just watched her munch through a big slice of cake.... Following her fish and chips lunch. It took all my self control to not tell her how to live her life!

She's proudly said she's "diet controlled". It would appear her diet is controlling her though! Won't be long until the pills are involved id think.

Lovely woman but oh how I want to shake her....

The diabetics are taking over at your work place! It won't be long till "normal" folk don't want to apply for jobs there for fear it's catching. :lol: I love it, diet controlled and eating take away and cake. I'd love to be on that kinda diet. You should ask for her dietician's number! :wink:
