Hello...

I'm a newbie to this site and have been fascinated reading through some of the posts on here. However I haven't seen anything relating to DAFNE (Dose Adjustment For Normal Eating) which is a programme I was privileged enough to be introduced to approx 1 yr ago and I have to say it has changed my life completely. (But maybe I'm just not looking in the right place!) This is my 15th year as a Type 1 Diabetic and I only now feel as if I have stepped out of the dark into a whole new world. My HBA1c is now down from 12+ to 6.4 which is miraculous and I very rarely have a blood glucose reading over 10 now (again completely miraculous for someone who has always been on the high side since being diagnosed but now I know why!!)

The DAFNE system is so simple once you have been trained and all relates to CARBOHYDRATES and learning how they affect us once eaten. My insulin doses are now less than half of what they used to be pre-DAFNE and I have never felt better.

I would be interested to hear from anyone else who has been lucky enough to have discovered my mate DAFNE!!!

there isnt dafne in my area but a similar course has a nine mnth waiting list so ive learnt from here :D

i know i was very lucky and privileged to have DAFNE in my area and be one of the chosen few. Its just incredibly frustrating that its not available everywhere cos EVERY Type 1 Diabetic should have this opportunity and facility available to them - it really has changed my life and I'm probably one of the best adverts around for it due to how it has affected me and my whole way of life. :D

Hi wifeywatt

Firstly welcome to the forum

I have also done the DAFNE course as well, and really enjoyed it 5 days taking in a lot of information which you sort of took in more than you realised… DAFNE does give you more than just the ability to count carbs, but to understand why and what to do with the data that you collect…

I know that one of the girls on my course wanted to loose some weight, I do see her occasionally at the hospital and yes she is achieving the weight lose she wanted and her control is superb indeed, when we all met up to see how we had faired we did actually accuse her of not being a diabetic when we seen her almost non-diabetic numbers…

For me, it was able to high-light what was causing my problems and why I would be better off using a insulin pump to control my diabetes due to issues with pens and syringes not being able to delivery the minute amounts of insulin that I require.

hurrah!! another DAFNE success story!! fingers crossed it starts becoming more available for everyone - its definitely the way forward - I really believe that!
