It would be interesting to know what your doctor thinks is a pretty good diet, and if s/he would be prepared to hold off the meds while you take control. And don't worry, LCHF isn't controversial here, so welcome. As my diet/excercise is pretty good already the Doc is going to prescribe medication to assist in reducing the levels.
I've done some research and to improve my already good diet, I'm starting a Low Carb, increased Fat diet controversial i know.

Welcome to the forum. You are in the right place.. LOADS of knowledge, wisdom, and FRANKNESS here from people who have been there, done it and definitely got the T-shirt. Main rule is whilst we are all on the same journey with the same common ailment, we are all also unique and what works for one may not work for another. So I guess we all read about others experiences see it works for us and use what we need to improve our health and get control of this illness. Great that you are already relatively active, fit and healthy. That gives you a good start. However, managing your diet, reducing carbs and eradicating sugar will help you reduce your BG readings and get as close to normal as your lifestyle allows you to and what desire you have to make he change. After that if you need meds so be it, I came of my tablet after month. But I am not counting any chickens yet until I have my 3 month Hba1c next month. So best of luck on your journey at least you have discovered it 10 years earlier than me. You have so much of your potential healthy life ahead of you. Good luckHi just joined the forum, I'm a relativly fit and healthy 48yr old, good diet, moderate exercise, slightly overweight BMI 28, just had a routine health check at the Doctors on Thursday and i've been diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes.
I was understandably shocked and didn't get all the relevant figures but my HbA1c level was 102 it should be no more than 48, additionally my Cholesterol is high at 6.8
I have none of the symptoms associated with Type 2 and their is no history in my family.
As my diet/excercise is pretty good already the Doc is going to prescribe medication to assist in reducing the levels.
i've bought an Accu-Chek Glucose monitor and it confirms pretty much the diagnosis its showing about 10.8 - 11.7 mmol/L
I've an appointment with the Diabetic team on 5th Jan, but i'm already taking steps - I've done some research and to improve my already good diet, I'm starting a Low Carb, increased Fat diet controversial i know.
Thanks for reading, I guess i'll be around for a while........
@Bluetit1802 You don't miss a trick do you. You are quite right 28 is closer to obese then it is slightly overweight well spotted and great advice. Legend amongst legends!Hi and welcome.
My first observation was your BMI, which at 28 is a bit more than "slightly overweight" so maybe you could have a go at reducing that. Otherwise you are on the right track, and cutting carbs will shift that weight. We also need to be careful with fruit and milk. Many fruits are just too full of sugar for us type 2's. Berries seem to be the best choice.
Use your meter to test out your meals, test before and 2hrs after your first bite. Look at the rise. If it's more than 2mmol/l there are too many carbs in the meal. (ideally under 1.5mmol/l)
Great to see you are being proactive. Keep going and those levels will drop.

Spot on. We all do that. My new target weight is now 12 stone. Weighed today and the needle was closer to 13 and a half stone then it was to 14. I realise now that 12 is achievable and desirable for me now i know what to do and don't have to starve myself but just eat the right foods and smaller portions. It becomes a virtuous cycle because as you you see improvements it motivates you to keep going.LOL. From experience. I used to kid myself I wasn't much overweight until I checked the BMI websites and saw I was 30.
...i've made changes to my diet, reducing carbs, looking at food labels its shocking !
