Hi, My name is Alison.I am new to posting on this site but have been getting regular emails for quite some time. My OH and I have 4 children tho 2 no longer dependants! Eldest 21 (T1 since age 14), Daughter 19, Son 14 ASD poss Aspergers, Son 11 (T1 since age 6 thats 2 years after eldest, and ADHD).
Lately I am relieved to find that secondary school is more understanding, better equipped and have more knowledable staff than recent primary school experiences. My local primary school was horrendous (seriously!) I live in Flintshire N. Wales and had to contact my Assembly Minister several times since my youngest child diagnosed T1 5 years ago. Tried to get help through LEA but woman assigned to me was on first name terms with Head Teacher! Not had an easy time of things over past 5 years, son having ADHD (which was wrongly put down to BS levels at school) hasnt helped. If I had my time over I would have done things differently. I have never been one to rant and rave and always endeavored to be "nice" and that has been a great advantage to everyone- except me! Now that my experience with pramary school is over and hig school is soooo much better it feels safe to have a mini rant!!! hahaha
My advice to anyone having trouble getting support from schools is firstly to put everything in writing and make copies! secondly if you not happy to be constantly up and down to school sometimes 5/6 times a day to do blood tests etc say "No"! Our first aider was frightened of the sight of blood! whats that all about?? I know saying no is easier said than done when it comes to your child I couldnt do it heh heh
