Hello Everyone!
My name is Daniel and I am new to the Diabetes community. I have joined in a very difficult time in my life, and I am sure I am not the only one who has done so (I know I am not alone). Type 2 Diabetes runs in my family, and I have a few family members who have it. This is my last possible chance I have to avoid getting it, so I want to make this chance count.
Background story
A few years ago, I was at my highest weight. 280 pounds. My family doctor at time had said, and I remember him saying exactly "I'm losing you". I knew I had to make a chance and fast or else I was going to get diabetes. At that point, I was borderline pre-diabetic. After that appointment, it really shook me and I went on a 2 year journey of losing over 90 pounds. I had the help of a physically active full-time job and I ate well (lots of salads). I was at my lowest weight in years, and it felt really good.
Last year, I felt like it was time for me to move on from the industry, so I decided to start a new career and it has led me to where I am today, a full-time student. While being a full-time student with 8 courses is wonderful, it is also very hard in terms of food, cooking, and mindset. I have developed the mindset of ordering out and taking out. It gives me a good feeling and rush of feeling satisfied once I am done eating and I have stuffed my face. Take out has led me back to the point of 261 pounds as of today.
Present Moment
Last night, I had a lot of difficult emotions, and I knew that after ordering out, enough was enough. I had to make a change and if I don't make a change, I will be at the same point that I was a few years ago. The best thing I can do for myself right now is to join this community, get educated, and to also learn new tips to eat healthier. I also did a self-referral form this morning for a diabetes community intake, which will be very helpful for me as well, so I can join a community in-person as well.
I want to build a plan for my eating and exercising, since exercising is great for losing weight and to bring down my sugar levels.
Thank you for reading my long post and please have a lovely rest of your day!
