Hi, My name is Denise. I was diagnosed type 2 five months ago. Four years ago I had severe acute pancreatitis which left me with about 80-90% sterile necrotis pancreas. I was very lucky it was sterile and not infected because the outcome from that is very grim. The consultant could not find any reason for my pancreatitis, it was not alcohol, gall bladder, immune, or cancer. It was idiopathic i.e. they could not find any reason for it. I was told that I was not diabetic but would eventually become so.
It came as no shock when I was diagnosed in May this year as I was expecting it and was a kind of relief that I could now get treatment and move on. I have been put on Metformin SR 500mg, one a day. I have just had my first blood tests taken since and await the results. I also take Enalaprin for my stomach (a had a duodenal ulcer and severe raised erosive gastritis following the pancreatitis), tablets for high blood pressure, statins, and a anti depressent which was prescribed because the doctor said my body was depressed.
I get severe bouts of tiredness, really bad. I very often feel like a rag doll and some days have to stay in bed. They say this is nothing to do with either case! I also have a sickly stomach, discomfort when I eat a normal sized meal and occational pain under my ribs.
I would like to hear from anyone who has developed diabetes through pancreatitis. p.s. gucci yum yum is my dogs name, gucci for short.
