Hi there I'm Ben I'm 41,I've got some issues I need to deal with as I've been drinking heavy...so my hbla has been very high I've been told I might have to go onto insulin which I'm not sure if that's a good thing or not...so I thought I'd pop in here an get to no some people for support...

Hello and welcome to the forums. Can I ask what type of diabetes you have and how long you've had it? (T2 seems likely but there are other kinds).
While alcohol overuse is damaging in all sorts off ways, it doesn't in itself push up your blood sugar. (Though if you are binging on quite carbohydratey alcohol it probably won't help).

Insulin is often the medication of last resort for T2s and it works well for some people, not so well for others. (eg My cousin and his wife, both T2s, are both on insulin. He gets on with it very well, she has some issues).

But as a T1 I've loved insulin for more than 50 years, it doesn't have to be a bad thing.

Anyway, an important purpose for these forums is emotional support, so let me give you a virtual hug from New Zealand.

Thank you for your reply
