Joined this forum a few weeks ago just so I could down load the fancy Hba1c chart lol, I am 55 yrs old and have been a type 1 diabetic for about 25 years.

Anyway I'm seriously thinking about going on the pump and after speaking to my nurse just 3 days ago I was told I need to do a D.A.P.H.N.E course before hand so I'm on the waiting list for that.

Why do I want to go on pump? well hopefully it will be a contributory factor in better control but my real reason is the reduction in injections and the fact having a pump the insulin is delivered out of sight.

I cannot always disappear to take an injection at work which is a problem when I need to use my thighs as I work in an environment where there are a lot of people and dropping ones trousers isn't going to go down well even though I am able to partially remove myself from view. Injecting in my belly area isn't a problem no matter where I am I just get on with it.

Add to that when I go fishing pumping insulin will be much more convenient.
Without a doubt there are pro's and con's and I will read about them on here as well as experience them should I be granted a pump.

Well I'm off now to eat and will return to read through the many topics on this forum.

Regards

Martin

Hey Martin, I've been type 1 about as long as you, got a pump just over a year ago, wish I'd had one all my life! My control has improved so much!

Injecting wasn't a problem for me but if that's part of your reason for wanting one it makes sense if your having some difficulties.

There's lots of pumpers around so I'm sure we can all give you any advice you may need.

I should have mentioned that I have a sweet tooth! love Cadbury's there must be a few more people like me that are partial to too many biscuits and lumps of chocolate?

Hi Abbie, not so much difficulties just a bit of an incuberance.

I think a pump may solve some issues and improve them but may also deliver other problems. A lot of things can be overcome though and that is the way forward.

hello and Welcome to the forum...these pumps sound as though they are a good invention and better than injections will have to read up on them :)
