New meter

For some time I have been happily using a Contour Next meter for my testing.
Then my surgery said they were going over to GlucoRx meters as the strips were much cheaper and a meter arrived.
I took a reading with the new meter and it was 8.8. I then took a reading with my Contour meter and it was 7.2.
This is quite a big difference and it is worrying.

no meter is 100% accurate unfortunatly. Blood meters only need to be within 20% of 'Actual@ readings when in the lab. I wouldnt worry as that isnt a huge difference (I wouldnt act any differently for either)

Because of the 20% tolerance, the higher the reading, the bigger the difference can be. Fortunately, as the levels drop, the differences in different meters drops also. It is more advisable to look for trends in readings rather than the odd high or low reading. There can be many different reasons why you can get different readings in such a small time frame. The important thing is all meters will detect highs and lows. Total accuracy is not too important. There is no meter on the market that is totally accurate all the time.

I too have a glucorx. I have only had one hba1c test since having the meter and my predicted hba1c based on my average readings was close. Predicted 5.9% actual 42=6% I usually test on waking then test before and 2hrs after a meal(alternate between lunch and evening meal). If high will test before next meal/before bed.

I have a Glucorx from my Dr, and an Accucheck that I bought myself beforehand. The Glucorx always runs a little higher than the Accucheck. I've put it down to the accucheck running at the lower limit of the 20% tolerance and the glucorx at the upper limit.
I've stopped rechecking and comparing against metres now, I just do one test at one time on one metre.
