Hi. This is my first posting, and i need help. I am a type 2 on meds, Well was on meds. been off them for several months, with the excuse that i am too busy to go to the doctors. I am a drinker, but had an episode on new years eve. I am and have always been able to hold my drink, but on NYE i became verbaly agressive towards my best friend, but dont have any recollection of the incident. I remember before, and after, but not the incident. Could this be caused by hi blood sugar? I am really devastated that this is happened as i am not an aggressive person.

PLEASE HELP

I am at the docs tomorrow.

Hi Trev and welcome to the forum.

Aggression is more often a sign of low blood sugar (i.e. a hypo) rather than high blood sugar. With high blood sugar it is more usual to feel sleepy and lethargic. One of the problems with alcohol, and a reason why diabetics are warned to drink only in moderation, is that alcohol lowers your blood sugar. If you over-did it on NYE then a hypo would be quite possible.

I think a few of us will be quite fascinated with the concept that you no longer take meds because you are too busy. I assume you were advised at diagnosis that diabetes is a critical condition and not something that you can just shrug off, or will go away on its own like a cold? I can just picture the inscription on your tombstone, "He was diabetic but too busy to take meds. Well, he's not busy now . . . . . ".

What medication were you on and what has been the effect on your blood sugar since stopping medication? If you can give us a bit more info then perhaps we can give you some pointers for your GP appointment.

Hello Trevor, and welcome to the forum. When you say you are too busy, does this mean that you have a life style that's difficult to fit around taking stuff ie you work shifts

Or is it because you dont feel like you now have to rely on medication for maybe the rest of your life and this makes you feel like you have no control

Or does the medication make you feel ill

The above two Trevor I can understand as I have felt this way but dont let the diabetes control you, you have to control it

Best Wishes to you

Hi trevpl1
Yes Low Blood Glucose can cause aggression. I've seen my T1 husband do it many
times and nearly break my wrist when I've tried to give him sugar. In addition, I was once in A&E with aforementioned husband and we witnessed a very aggressive woman being brought in, You would have assumed she was "fighting drunk"
30 minutes later, after a bit of glucose, there was a sweet lady, apologising profusely to all the staff and asking for the apologies to be passed on to hte ambulance crew.
This is of course a good reason why diabetics should be VERY careful with alcohol. It would be only too easy to be arrested on a drunk and disorderly charge and be locked up to die, just when you really need help.
