The poor old husband is now dying of constipation. He is so miserable its a shame. He gets piles and says it's really painful. What should I give him to stop this happening on this diet ?

You could try adding more oil to diet,Ming. You know as salad dressing or even a teaspoon of oil if he can stomach that!

Water. At least 2 litres a day, really.

And that artificial sweetener acts as a laxative!

Increase vegetables such as cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, leafy green vegetables generally. They are all low in carb.

But I find water is the crucial think, it keeps the stools soft and easier to pass.

If he is getting bleeding, you may want to discuss with a pharmacist. It is very painful, and there may be something that can help that area heal.

I find that taking magnesium helps. I take one 250mg tablet a day if I get a bit 'bunged up'.

Certainly my friend the coconut oil is good for that too. Keeps the 'engine' moving!

I do find that too much dairy has that effect on me so I tend to limit it.

If he gets very bunged up, milk of magnesia is a good medicine cupboard standby - jet engine if you overdo it! Hopefully his elimination system will settle down eventually and sort itself out. Changes like this can happen when you change your diet.

Suffering meself that way! The professionals tell me minimum of 8 glasses of water - up to 10, cut back on the dairy and up the coconut oil.......
Also walking will help or abdomen massage.

 I don't know what I'd do without you lot ! TY. He has lain in the bath since about half 5 this morning , says it's the only place he feels comfortable. We have Germoloids from a previous episode of this, I think myself he just doesn't drink enough but I can't force him to do it. The last time he was bleeding really badly and it was a horrible time, so I do feel sorry for him . I might actually phone a chemist for advice , but he is the driver in this house and the nearest chemist is 10 miles away so we can't go today. TY all again. God the things we talk about on the internet eh !

Spiral - or anybody - does tea count as "water" ? Cos he takes sweetener in tea and theoretically that should work better than just plain water ?

I suppose I should have expected this on this diet, because he is always this way normally - we think it's maybe some of the heart meds he's taking. This time it seems worse though. But it narrows even more the kind of food I can give him - there's a limit to my inventiveness (and tolerance) of vegetables ! I have ordered psyllium capsules from amazon, will give him a nice big green salad today (if he will eat!) and cover it in olive oil...
I never ever have any probs with stuff like this, maybe because I drink tea nonstop all day ? No sugar.

Hi Ming,
I low carb but the only time I have had a problem is when I am on holiday and therefore have found it difficult to eat enough veg and salad! So try to get more veg down him!

 I said today we will have a nice big green salad...........he said he never wants to eat again, and went to bed. he is sound asleep. I think he was up all night. Poor wee scone

Also try a good tablespoon of flaxseeds or some wheat bran, that is usually brilliant. I find that the only kind of sweetener giving me laxative effects are polyols, splenda and aspartame don't effect me like that.
