New research

Sorry, it's a report from Reuters describing follow up results from a study in the 80s where two groups of newly diagnosed diabetics were either managed 'aggressively' by normalising blood glucose as tightly as possible, or following a typical regime. The study ran for 6 years then the active change was stopped (although I suppose those who had been taught and practiced tight control for 6 years may well have carried it on). Anyway, they continued to be observed into the future and there are now, 30 years after the intervention, clear improvements in long term outcomes in the participants that had tight blood sugar control for the duration of the 6 year trial.

Hope this is an accurate summary of the summary!
