So the doctors can do one of their diet and lifestyle interventions in advance of diagnosis - just what we need, they'll turn the purely 'at risk' people with metabolic syndrome into diabetics even sooner!
Glancing further into this@ cell.com,
Quote:
SFRP4 caused reduced glucose tolerance through decreased islet expression of Ca2+ channels and suppressed insulin exocytosis. SFRP4 thus provides a link between islet inflammation and impaired insulin secretion

It would seem this would only cover the reduced insulin secretion and those of us afflicted with impared insulin sensitivity will still be in the dark for solutions.
However the articles do provide for hope for alternatives to HCP ineffectual lifestyle manipulations
quote:
"In the long term, our findings could also lead to new methods of treating type 2 diabetes by developing ways of blocking the protein SFRP4 in the insulin-producing beta cells and reducing inflammation, thereby protecting the cells."

Hope they can block SFRP4 without screwing something else up
