New to all this...

Hi and welcome to the forum @BarbsC . Yes, it does come as a shock. A lot of people find out when a routine blood panel is done as part of something else. The good thing is you can now do something about it. Firstly, you have come to a great site here with many experienced members with a wealth of knowledge. So do feel free to ask questions. Many members here have been able to bring their blood sugars down through diet.

May I ask what your HbAc1 results were? Also if you don’t mind me asking, what kind of foods were you eating before your diagnosis?

Without trying to bombard you with questions, may I suggest you get yourself a glucose monitor, if you don’t already have one. A meter will help you to monitor your blood sugars.

Hello and welcome @BarbsC

Welcome to the club that no one wants to join :)

The good news is that you have found this place. For me it was a life saver.

I completely agree with @Melgar that you should get a glucose monitor. It is likely that you will be told that you don't need one but in my personal view it is essential.

Read around the forum and ask questions. This is such an amazing place with some amazing people who are only too ready to offer advice and support.

Welcome.

Hi thanks. My HbAc1 was 51 in March then 52 in June. My cholesterol was high in March but down to normal levels in June.
Actually my diet has always been healthy but I do love a cake. From Xmas to March I was not in a very good place mentally and although eating healthily was binging on all the bad stuff of cake & chocolate. I broke my leg & both feet last year and I've been struggling to get back to my yoga, pilates & hiking. All this was getting me down. Although this diabetes is a shock its brought me out of that black hole & am determined to get this under control. Thanks for the suggestion of a glucose monitor I will definitely look into that. Thank you everyone

Hi Faisal, thanks for asking. I've actually got shingles at the moment so I'm struggling through all this info.
After today I decided to go back to my previous healthy diet minus cakes, sweets and the occasional pie. When I'm feeling back on track I'll decide where I'm going with all this.
