New to diabetes. Is it true conditions such as psoriasis can nudge a T2 into T1.5 grounds?

I am still a little befuddled by all the information out there. So, Please give it to me easy. Is it true if I have psoriasis (prosiatic arthrits in my case) this can be a factor in getting T1.5 or even T1?

Hi @freenarative, and welcome! I am not a doctor but as far as I'm aware there is a suggested link between prosiatic arthritis and type 2 but have never heard of a link with type 1 or 1.5. You would however have to check with your specialist to make sure. I am a little confused as your profile says you are already a type 1.5 so are you asking because you think the PA may have contributed to your diabetes? Sue x

There is an issue that people with one autoimmune condition (which psoriasis is considered to be), they are more statistically likely to develop other autoimmune conditions. I understand that some autoimmune diseases may "cluster" together, though I don't recall ever seeing a connection specifically between psoriasis and Type 1/1.5.

You might find the following thread on the aetiology of autoimmune conditions helpful:

@mrspuddleduck. Thank you for making me aware that my profile says I'm 1.5. I'll need to change that when I get to a pc. I'm actually T2 ATM.

I will also ask my doc about the T1.5. Rtfm.

Don't worry, mine says I'm type 1 and I'm actually type 3c, but cant change it on my phone either!! :)

I have psoriasis and im type 1.5 too. The only way to establish your type is via a c peptide test

Hi @mrspuddleduck the doctors have made no link between the two. Ive had psoriasis all my life so no idea if its linked at all tbh. I guess having one autoimmune condition increased my chance of getting another one though with my overactive immune system.

What treatment have people found to be the best at treating psoriasis
