Marriage, exploitation in whatever guise, capitalism, bullying, computers, don't understand all this - what is a URL?

This is by way of introduction. My name is Eddie - I am 64 and very Scottish. Don't watch much TV except Match of the Day and Sportscene. My favourite flag is the Saltire. Travelled most of the world. Favourite city is Paris. I have 2 dogs - a lurcher and a working cocker spaniel. Favourite films, The Godfather 1 & 2, Apocalypse Now, prefer film noir from Europe and I like the Theatre and Classical Music, and especially Art Galleries. I work in the Eye Outpatients Department of my local general hospital. What have I studied? Marine Radio Communications, Telecommunications, Mechanical Engineering, Clinical Effectiveness (Masters - I was a Senior Nurse for 30 years in the NHS) and Honours in Medieval Scottish History. I love my mountains, my glens and my coast.

Sorry but I am not a computer person (no real interest) and don't know how to use this Blog thing. I am Type 2 Diabetic supposedly diet controlled. Diagnosed 3 years ago.
Year 1 used test strips and managed with regular exercise to keep BS between 7 and 8 taking my BS in the morning.
Year 2 told not to use test strips - not to allow diabetes to interfere with my life. Result slight? Chaos - in 6th months I was up to 12 and it took another 6 months to get it down to 8.
Year 3 chaos. BS readings all over the place. That is when I can afford the test strips. I work in a sedentary job and commute from 05.50am to 7pm and cook and clean and look after my wife's dogs so we don't eat until 20.30hrs in the evening. Then its dogs out time again and bed. My wife bought the dogs against my and the family's advice and she did her usual thing of giving the dogs to the guy dogs seem to like. Hence no exercise. I am also Registered Blind - not Diabetic Retinopathy - "Retinitis Pigmentosa". I am that "Shark in the Dark". But I am not "black blind". I still have accurate central vision in my left eye but no peripheral in either and blurry central vision in my right eye.
My weight ha been 14st give or take 1lb for years at 5ft 10ins.

What I want to know is with BS readings all over the place while I have a fairly consistent diet why have I never had any symptoms. Nothing, nada, no polydipsia, no polyuria, nothing. I regard myself as fairly normal - Weetabix breakfast, a banana, a wholemeal salad sandwich (huge drop in bread intake) 2 slice per day now, no chips or potatoes, I confess to the occasional pasta - not huge but mainly fish, chicken, sausage fortnightly. 2 things: I like another Weetabix at 10pm and I have the odd binge on a bar of chocolate or a biscuit. I am not a drinker - can't remember the last beer I had.
So why no symptoms? I have never seen a dietician or nutritionist.
You guys out there have much more experience than I. What do you think is going on? Thoughts please.

Best Wishes,

Eddie
