HI All

I thought I had posted a message last week, but I can't find it.

I am 42 year old and I was diagnosed as pre-diabetic or 'Impaired Glucose Intolerent' about 18 months ago,( although the DR orignally told me I was type 2, when I saw the diabetic nurse she said the Dr had 'jumped the gun' and I was pre-diabetic), so I was somewhat confused and asked for a 2nd blood test, which came out as pre-diabetic, I can't remember my numbers. I am soon due for my Haba1 (or whatever it is called) and I am concerned they are going to tell me I am now type 2, as I have been struggling to come to terms with everything and I have not been looking after my health needs. Is there anyone out there in a similar position to me, I have recently been put on disperible asprin, as they say my BP is higher then they would like, and I am also on Simavastin? for my cholestral which again they say its not high for a non diabetic person but higher then they would like.

Hi Teresa,

Yes, you did say hello back on 5th Feb but it appears nobody said hello back!

The test you are waiting for is HBA1C and it measures your blood sugar highs and lows over the previous 90 days, so it is a very good measure of whether of not you are diabetic. If your blood pressure is high then you might be switched to something stronger than aspirin, as high blood pressure is an added danger for someone with diabetes.

Your cholesterol drug will be simvastatin, which protects against stroke and heart attack. Doctors always like diabetics to have a lower cholesterol level than a non-diabetic, as diabetics tend to have a higher rate of heart-related problems later.

When it comes to looking after your health needs, I think you already know the answer to that. The only person who can help you there is you. You either decide I will not let this beat me, or you give up, do nothing and die. Choice is not really that difficult is it?
