Hi, My name is Ken Baker, I live in North Devon. I am the chairman of the local diabetes support group, which is a group of people who either have diabetes or care for someone with the condition. None of us are professionals we just meet to support one another socially and offer any help and advice we can based on our own personal experiences. We do have monthly meetings with education talks from health care professionals on care and management of our condition. There is a mix of type 1 and 2 and the age profile of our group is among the senior category, that is why we would welcome the younger groups and young adults along as we all know how difficult life with diabetes can be when you are trying to live your life as a young and vibrant teenager.
My own story is that from being diagnosed and at the time way overweight, and being prescribed medication I decided i would try and lose some of that weight to avoid the medication. Now over two stone lighter my HbA1c is at 6.1.
