Hi Bruce and welcome to the forum:)

I don't know how long since you were diagnosed but I hope you will find this information useful. Ask questions and someone will be able to help.

Thanks for the welcome note. I have never used any type of forum/social media sites so like the diabetes it's new to me. Well the diabetes is not so new I was diagnosed October last year. At the time I was suffering with symptoms and did not know what was wrong. Up and down to the toilet all night, extreme thirst, blurred vision, finger tips felt like they were made of plastic with no feeling, dizzy spells, cramps in hands and lower legs. All in all I was unwell. Type 2. Now taking 4 x Metformin a day. Was taking a Glyclacide until the numbers were under control.

Welcome to the forum Bruce.

Hi Bruce

Thanks for the update on your situation and congratulations on the improvement of your blood sugar levels since diagnosis. I hope the symptoms you were experiencing at diagnosis have improved.

Take care

Hi, my name is Sandy I am a 47 yr old female and have recently been diagnoised I was having readings from 26 to 15 and now I'm on metformin 500mg 3 times a day. My readings are still around 15 sometimes higher but not much lower. I have an app to go back to see nurse in 3 weeks and I'm also waiting for a scan on my liver ( I don't drink alcohol ) I'm trying to get my head round the low GI and would like some advice to some good books (I'm vegetarian) any other advice is appreciated too.

Hi Sandy and welcome to the forum.

If you want specific advice or to introduce yourself, it may be better to start a new thread for yourself.

A diet high in carbohydrates and polyunsaturated seed/vegetable oils is known to induce fatty liver in some people - it can also cause fatty pancreas and both can contribute to Type 2 diabetes. A good resource for fatty liver is a Dr Sandra Cabot and the Liver Cleansing Diet - the diet is also very good for diabetes, however, not specifically for vegetarians as far as I'm aware.

You could also search the forum for "Newcastle Diet" as it is designed specifically to reduce visceral fat in the shortest amount of time.

Hopefully one of the vegetarian members can offer you some further advice.
